‘Catholic Parish Manager’ aims to automate record creation and retrieval of Catholic parishes. Since all workflows involved in Catholic parish management are universally similar according to the guidelines set forth by the Vatican, it can be used in any Catholic parish around the globe.
The software will handle the data recording of a Catholic from Baptism to the Final Rights in a parish. Considerable effort will be taken in the design of the software to facilitate future integration of parishes, dioceses and countries to share information in a secure and robust manner.
The software will be developed using Java (Swing) and will use JDBC to communicate with a MySQL database, with future plans to elaborate the solution to a web based one. The solution will be platform independent when the underlying OS is concerned.
The primary concerns of the development team are security and scalability. Although the design supports scalability we need to put more effort to handle the security of the application.
